TAC ISRAEL Sample Itinerary

This is a sample of what an itinerary may look like based off of past summers’ trips. We can not guarantee your actual itinerary or accommodations will be the same, but it will have a reflection of this schedule.

Day 1 | 

TAKING FLIGHT 

Depart for Israel!

Day 2 |

WELCOME TO ISRAEL! 

  • Welcome ceremony and shehecheyanu at Tel Azeka overlooking the Ella Valley – the site of David’s legendary battle with Goliath 
  • Enjoy an off-road jeep tour of the Hirbet Midras and Beit Govrin area
  • Check-in, rest time, and swimming pool access 

Evening: Staff-led ice breakers, orientation, and dinner at our accommodations 

OVERNIGHT: Kibbutz Kramim, Negev Desert 

Day 3 | 

MAKING THE DESERT BLOOM 

  • Hike to the hidden desert pools at Ein Avdat 
  • Lunch, pool time, and relaxation at Sde Boker 
  • Learn about David Ben Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister, at his gravesite overlooking Wadi Tzin and explore the “Formative Decisions” that shaped modern Israel’s founding at a leadership workshop organized by the Ben Gurion Heritage Institute 

Evening: Take part in preparing a traditional fresh-cooked “Poike Pot” meal in the desert 

OVERNIGHT: Kibbutz Kramim, Negev Desert 

Day 4 | 

BAMIDBAR DESERT WILDERNESS 

  • Travel to the desert community of Yerucham where we’ll celebrate Israel’s Mizrachi          (Sephardic) culture with a Moroccan tile art project 
  • Pizur lunch at Mitzpe Ramon 
  • Explore the world’s largest erosion crater at the Ramon Crater Visitor Center
  • Discover the stark beauty of Ramon Crater on a short nature walk in the “Carpentry Shop” geological formation 
  • Continue south to the Arava Valley and the Red Mountains of Israel’s far south 
  • Set-up camp to begin our BaMidbar desert wilderness experience – Learn how to survive and thrive in the desert as our ancestors did in Israel’s Harei Edom (Red Mountains) 

OVERNIGHT: CAMPING IN THE DESERT 

Day 5 | 

THE RED SEA + ISRAEL’S SOUTHERN BORDERS 

  • Wake up early to begin our pre-sunrise hike to the summit of Mt. Tzfahot overlooking the Red Sea 
  • Return to our camp for breakfast and wrap-up our BaMidbar experience 
  • Continue to the Red Sea – Discover underwater treasures snorkeling at Coral Beach
  • Relaxed beach time and banana boating adventure at the Red Sea resort city of Eilat 
  • Check-in to our desert kibbutz accommodations and prepare for Shabbat 

Evening: Kabbalat Shabbat experience and oneg activity on kibbutz 

OVERNIGHT: Kibbutz Lotan + Yahel Guest Houses, Arava Valley

Day 6 | 

DESERT SHABBAT 

  • Staff-led Shabbat programming and group lunch at our accommodations 
  • Walking tour of the kibbutz and learn about the contemporary kibbutz community model 
  • Enjoy a relaxed Shabbat with pool time, sports, and relaxation 
  • Dinner at our accommodations followed by havdalah 

Evening: Group night out along the Eilat waterfront and Ice Mall 

OVERNIGHT: Kibbutz Lotan + Yahel Guest Houses, Arava Valley

Day 7 | 

ISRAEL’S DESERT ECOLOGY 

  • Experience the thrill of scaling the Kassui sand dunes in the Arava Valley
  • Desert ecology workshop – learn how Israel thrives in the desert at a desert kibbutz 
  • Stop for lunch and ice cream at Yotvata 
  • Continue north up the Arava Valley to the Judean Desert 
  • Experience effortless floating at the Dead Sea’s Ein Bokek Beach 
  • Camel riding and share a traditional Bedouin-style tent feast at Kfar Hanokdim encampment 

OVERNIGHT: Kfar Hanokdim Desert Tent, Judean Desert 

Day 8 | 

MASADA: JEWISH HEROISM, DILEMMAS, AND LEADERSHIP 

  • Pre-sunrise hike up the Roman Ramp to the summit of Masada 
  • Masada – Tour of Herod’s desert mountain top fortress and the bastion of an ancient Jewish rebellion 
  • Descend Masada via the Snake Path or cable cars and stop for breakfast at the base of Masada 
  • Nature walk in Ein Gedi National Park and Cool off under the desert waterfalls at Nahal David 
  • Ascend to Jerusalem – Stopping for a welcome ceremony at the Scopus overlook 
  • Check-in to our hotel in Jerusalem and rest 
  • Evening: Dinner followed by a modern Israeli dance class workshop at our accommodations

Day 9 | 

FOUNDATIONS OF JEWISH HISTORY IN JERUSALEM 

  • City of David Excavations – Discover the foundations of Jerusalem dating back to King David’s time 
  • Hezekiah’s Tunnel – Cool off in the spring-fed underground aqueduct running below Jerusalem 
  • Enter the Old City at Zion Gate and explore the ancient neighborhoods of the Jewish Quarter 
  • Free time to explore the Jewish Quarter, including a catered lunch (Holy Bagels) 
  • Reflections at the Kotel – The Western Wall complex – and explore the Southern Wall Excavations 

Evening: Dinner is included at our hotel followed Preparation for Yad VaShem

OVERNIGHT: Ye’arim Hotel, Jerusalem Hills

Day 10 | 

HONORING THE LAND 

  • Mahane Yehuda – Experience this colorful open-air marketplace + pizur lunch 
  • Yad VaShem World Holocaust Remembrance Center 
  • Processing Yad VaShem 

Evening: Iftah Burman for a geopolitical overview of Israel and the Middle East today

OVERNIGHT: Ye’arim Hotel, Jerusalem Hills

Day 11 | 

UNDERSTANDING OUR PAST IN ORDER TO CREATE A FUTURE 

  • Travel to Neot Kedumim Biblical Park for a leadership workshop, tree planting ceremony, and self-cooked lunch experience 
  • Dig-for-a-Day Archeological Seminar at Beit Guvrin National Park 

OVERNIGHT: Eyal Hotel, Jerusalem 

Day 12 | 

SACRIFICE AND SOVEREIGNTY IN JERUSALEM 

  • Talk with Women of the Western Wall at the hotel
  • Mt. Herzl National Cemetery – Honoring Israel’s national leaders and fallen soldiers
  • Prepare for Shabbat 
  • Re-enter the Old City for a Kabbalat Shabbat experience at the Kotel, Judaism’s holiest site 
  • JMI Shabbat dinner celebration with other JCCA camps at Beit Shmuel 

OVERNIGHT: Eyal Hotel, Jerusalem

Day 13 | 

SHABBAT IN JERUSALEM 

  • Option to attend Shabbat morning services in Jerusalem
  • Afternoon visit to the Israel Museum – View the Dead Sea Scrolls, Temple Model, and more 
  • Explore the grounds of the Knesset, Israel’s Parliament, and spend the rest of the afternoon enjoying a Jerusalem-style Shabbat at Saker Park 
  • Havdalla ceremony — celebrate the start of a new week 

Evening: Group night out at Ben Yehuda Pedestrian Mall + pizur dinner

Day 14 | 

SEARCHING FOR SOLUTIONS 

  • Roots Tent – Take part in a constructive Arab-Israeli dialogue in the West Bank 
  • Break for pizur lunch in Efrat, one of the largest settlements and the center of the Gush Etzion Bloc 
  • Geopolitical tour of Jerusalem – The seam, the wall, and the future including Ammunition Hill

Evening: Staff led activity at the hotel

Day 15 | 

ALONG THE MEDITERRANEAN COAST 

  • Caesarea – Explore Herod’s Roman-era palace & amphitheater on the beach, and learn about his outsized impact on Jewish history in Israel
  • Archaeological snorkeling tour of the underwater Caesarea ruins (picnic-style lunch on the beach) 
  • Spend the rest of the afternoon explore Haifa, Israel’s most diverse city, including a visit to the Bahai Temple Gardens

Day 16 |

THE GALILEE’S PIONEERING SPIRIT 

  • Raft-building team challenge on the Sea of Galilee + picnic-style lunch 
  • Look out across the Jezreal Valley from Mount Gilboa 
  • Swim in the natural spring-fed pools of the Sachne, what’s been described as Israel’s Garden of Eden 

Evening: Political seminar with IDF Retired Colonel Eyal Dror

Day 17 | 

PERSPECTIVES FROM THE GOLAN HEIGHTS 

  • Get wet hiking down Nahal Jilaboun Canyon on the Golan Heights 
  • Encounter with the Druze culture and share a traditional meal in the Golan village of Ein Kinya 
  • View Israel’s neighbors and navigate former IDF bunkers at the summit of Mt. Ben-Tal 
  • Cool off rafting down the upper Jordan River followed by a fresh-cooked pizza dinner

Day 18 | 

DIVERSITY & CO-EXISTENCE IN THE GALILEE 

  • Celebrate Israel’s Ethiopian immigrants and enjoy a traditional lunch 
  • Travel to Sindyanna of the Galilee, for a cross-cultural encounter and basket-weaving workshop
  • Spend the rest of the afternoon in Nazareth, the capital of Israel’s Arab-Christian community, where we’ll meet with a community leader, visit the Church of the Annunciation, and browse local markets

Evening: Meet with a diverse panel of students who call the Galilee home

Day 19 | 

MYSTICS OF THE GALILEE 

  • Ancient Tsfat – Explore the historic center of Jewish mysticism in the Galilee highlands 
  • Meet with Kabbalistic artist, Avraham Lowenthal, in the Tsfat artists’ colony 
  • Free time for exploration and pizur lunch in the Tsfat artists’ quarter 
  • Take part in a challah baking at an ancient stone oven bakery OR Meditation workshop with Livnot U’Lhitraot 
  • Prepare for Shabbat

Evening: Kabbalat Shabbat, dinner, and oneg activity at our accommodations

Day 20 | 

SHABBAT IN THE WESTERN GALILEE 

  • Shabbat programming and group lunch at our accommodations 
  • Nature walk to Horshot Forest and climb the Tower & Stockade, a British Mandate-era legacy of Jewish pioneers in the region 
  • Havdallah – celebrate the start of a new week together 

Evening: Travel to Acco to embark on a Mediterranean cruise from the Acco Seaport and group night out at Acco’s Azrieli Mall

Day 21 | 

ADVENTURES IN THE WESTERN GALILEE 

  • Rappelling down the Keshet Arch natural geological wonder (packed lunch) 
  • Rosh Hanikrah – Descend into the ocean-swept caves on Israel’s far northern border 
  • Spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the ancient seaport of Acco and its Crusader-era history 

Evening: Experience the high ropes course and climbing wall at the Acco Extreme Park

Day 22 | 

ELECTIVES DAY #1 

  • Sea-to-Sea Hike – Hike from the Mediterranean Sea to the Sea of Galilee 
  • Gadna IDF Immersion – “Basic training” style experience 
  • Volunteering at Kibbutz Harduf – work with immigrant youth, environmental restoration & more

Day 23 | 

ELECTIVES DAY #2 

  • Sea-to-Sea Hike – Hike from the Mediterranean Sea to the Sea of Galilee

  • Electives conclude after lunch 
  • Come back together as a group at Haifa Sportan’s pool, grounds, and athletic facilities 
  • Travel down the Mediterranean Coast to Tel Aviv, Israel’s cultural and commercial capital 

Evening: Group night out at Sarona pedestrian mall 

OVERNIGHT: Metropolitan Hotel, Tel Aviv 

Day 26 | 

THE STORY OF MODERN ISRAEL IN TEL AVIV | *Family Visitation

  • Learn how Israel became the “Startup Nation” at the Peres Center for Peace & Innovation in Jaffa 
  • Nahalat Binyamin craft festival and grab lunch at the adjacent Carmel Market 
  • Walking tour of Tel Aviv’s historic Neve Tzedek and trendy Rothschild Boulevard neighborhoods, including a stop at Independence Hall (view from outside, currently closed for renovations) 
  • Rabin Square – Visit the memorial at the site of Yitzhak Rabin’s assassination 
  • Prepare for Shabbat 

Evening: Experience an open-air Kabbalat Shabbat at the Tel Aviv Port 

Shabbat dinner and Oneg Shabbat at our accommodations

Day 27 | 

SHABBAT AT THE BEACH | *Family Visitation

  • Late wake-up, staff-led Shabbat programming, followed by Shabbat lunch

Day 28 | 

ARTS & CULTURE IN TEL AVIV 

  • Volunteer at Leket Israel at Rishon Letzion 
  • Machon Ayalon – Explore the story of the Haganah and the struggle to gain independence at this secret historical ammunition factory outside of Tel Aviv
  • Walking tour of Jaffa Seaport followed by lunch at the iconic Dr. Shakshouka Restaurant 
  • Discover the complexity and beauty of Hebrew graffiti art in Florentine and learn how to make your own graffiti art creation 

Evening: Movie night at Tel Aviv’s Cinema City Complex 

OVERNIGHT: Metropolitan Hotel, Tel Aviv

Day 29 | 

ADAPTING TO CHALLENGE IN THE SOUTH 

  • Israeli martial arts workshop on the beach with Budokan 
  • Visit Sderot’s fortified playground and Netiv HaAsara’s Peace Wall on the frontier with Gaza, and learn how these communities have adapted their surroundings (lunch at Netiv HaAsara) 
  • Surfing class, beach time, and BBQ dinner at Palmachim Beach

Day 30 | 

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE 

  • Speaker – Bringing Israel Home with Vibe Israel 
  • Shopping time in the Jaffa Flea Market + pizur lunch 
  • Visit to the Museum of the Jewish People (Diaspora Museum) on the campus of Tel Aviv University 
  • Wrap-up session and celebration dinner at Mini Israel 

Return to Ben Gurion Airport for our overnight flight back to Newark
